Two Caney Creek High School students may have just ruined their life before it even started after pulling a prank.
David Navarrete-Arce, 17, and Diego Flores, 18, have been charged with felony possession of a prohibited weapon after police accused them of a fart prank that sent several students to the hospital.
On May 3, staff and students reported an odor at a school in northeast Montgomery County. Students were evacuated until the smell dissipated. The next day, school officials evacuated the building again due to the same odor.
School officials sent the students, teachers, and staff home and closed it through May 5th.
The building was searched by local fire departments, hazardous-material teams, and school officials, but they couldn’t pinpoint the source of the smell.
Eventually, Conroe ISD police officers and school officials reviewed cameras inside the school and saw Navarrete-Arce walking with students, reacting as if they could smell a strong odor, Montgomery County newspaper, The Courier reported.
“The video showed the students recoiling and covering their noses and mouths with their hands and other items,” the arrest affidavit states. “The video showed Navarrete-Arce appear to drop and pick up an item and shows the item in his hand appeared to be a small spray can.”
Navarette-Arce admitted to spraying the substance and giving it to another student but wouldn’t say who that student was.
Flores can was taken away by teachers. Officers retrieved it and determined it was the same as Navarette-Arce.
“Through the investigative work of the Conroe ISD Police Department and campus administration, we believe that the odor was introduced by a student(s) using a highly concentrated prank stink spray called Hensgaukt Fart Spray,” Principal Jeff Stichler said in a statement to parents May 5.
Seven students all complained of headaches and were taken to local hospitals. All were treated and released.
Navarrete-Arce and Flores were arrested and charged with third-degree felony charges. They face two to 10 years in prison. But could also receive probation.
Caney Creek Fire Department Chief Ray Flannely released a statement regarding the incident, “A lot of resources are tied up on incidents like these,” Flannely said.
