Tyga’s relationship with 17 year old Kylie Jenner has been the topic of discussion for several months, most recently after Amber Rose and Khloe Kardashian’s Twitter spat yesterday. This morning Tyga was a guest on the show in an attempt to clear the air. Let me preface this by saying there were so many side-eye moments in this interview that my face got stuck. He not only blames black culture for mistaking he and Kylie’s relationship, he even says that she’s within the age of consent so if he wanted to have sex with her, he could (at least in New York, he could).
“I’m not dating Kylie, I just want to get that out the way,” Tyga says when asked if he’s dating Kylie or if he’s waiting until she’s 18. He goes on to say, “I want to be clear to everybody that I didn’t leave my family to be with Kylie. That’s ridiculous. Me and [Blac] Chyna, we broke up close to a year now and because of the decision we made, and things in our relationship that wasn’t going right, so we decided to split to raise an emotionally stable kid. That’s what we did and now we have a great relationship.” As a side-note, I’m not 100% buying that he’s not dating Kylie. Dressing up in matching Halloween outfits, going out to dinner, having her chilling at your house, spending holidays (including Valentine’s Day) together and taking her on tour with you are things couples do. But I digress, if Tyga doesn’t want to call it dating then they aren’t “dating”.
Tyga goes on to blame the speculation that he’s having sex with Kylie on black culture. “Black culture, if you hang around someone all the time, you’re smashing them. White culture is different. They really are friends, it’s genuine, it’s differen’t. How we [black people] think, our mentality is different.” He says that he’s known the family for a long time and that hanging with them didn’t become a big deal until TMZ found out and blew it out of proportion. I’d like to note that TMZ and their readers are primarily white, so it’s not just “black culture” that thinks he has a relationship with Kylie.
Oh, but it gets better Tyga says that if he wanted to have a relationship with Kylie he could, because she’s within the age of consent — at least in New York. Then asks Charlamagne to Google it. Clearly, he’s looked it up before, and that’s weird. The creepy laugh afterwords was even worse. Still, age of consent law in NY doesn’t make it any less inappropriate for a 16 (now 17) year old to drop out of school to follow a 25 year old around on tour.
