Tyrese Gibson is set to star as the legendary soul singer, Teddy Pendergrass, in a new Warner Brothers Biopic.
Lee Daniels, Donald De Line (who produced “Ready Player One”) and Gibson are producing the film with writer Little Marvin set to write the screenplay.  Pendergrass’ widow, Joan Pendergrass, is also an executive producer.
According to Variety, the movie will chronicle the amazing and tumultuous life of one of the greatest R & B performers of all time.
Tyrese was granted the blessing of playing the role of the legend, himself, before his passing in 2010.Â
“I am honored to take this journey. This is the role that I feel I was born to play,” Gibson said in a statement. “Teddy Pendergrass embraced me and before he passed put the responsibility on my shoulders to tell his story,” commented Gibson. “Being here in this time and in this space and moment with Lee Daniels, Donald De Line, Little Marvin, and Warner Bros. is an answered prayer. Teddy, I just hope we make you, your wife and family proud… Here we go.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Teddy Pendergrass’ legacy has seen a resurgence after the release of the documentary “Teddy Pendergrass: If you don’t know me” which premiered on Showtime, the documentary featured Teddy P., in his own words sharing his life story. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A release date for the biopic hasn’t been announced yet.
