On Wednesday, Tyrese took to Instagram to send a message to his “bitter” ex-wife, Norma Mitchell Gibson. In the post, the singer pleaded with Norma, saying “all I wanna do is co/parent nothing else….Please…I’ve only prayed that your heart heals and we live our lives separately and peacefully on behalf of our daughter….”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although fans were taken aback by Tyrese’s comment, PEOPLE reports that his longwinded post came after his ex-wife was granted a temporary restraining order against him, forcing the singer/actor to stay 100 yards from both Norma and their 10-year-old daughter, Shayla. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In court documents obtained by the publication, Norma accused Tyrese of abusing their daughter last month, saying the actor “pushed our daughter to the ground, pinned her face down, put his knees on her back, grabbed her hands with one arm and beat her with the other.”
As a result, Norma was granted physical and legal custody of Shayla, until the two meet in court on Oct. 2nd.
In addition, Norma says Tyrese beat their daughter so bad, that Shayla complained that it had become hard to sit because of the pain. She says Tyrese has mental health issues and she’s concerned about her daughter’s well-being while in his care. According to the documents, Norma says the singer has been diagnosed with manic behavior and Bipolar disorder, and that he has beat on her on several occasions in the past, including “when I was pregnant with our daughter.”
