Check your freezers. The total amount of pounds of meat that Tyson is recalling have now amounted to 9 million pounds.
The company is recalling 500,000 additional pounds of meat after learning that the chicken is contaminated with Listeria. Eating food that contains Listeria, at its very worst, can lead to death. Listeria can also cause fever, confusion, diarrhea, muscle aches, convulsions, and loss of balance. It can also cause miscarriages in pregnant women.
The recalled food, branded with the number “EST. P-7089,” was sold at several big-box retailers, including Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix, and H-E-B.
The contaminated “ready-to-eat” chicken was shipped to schools, hospitals, restaurants, nursing homes, retailers, and Department of Defense locations.
