A woman who died after a dirt-bike accident in Connecticut on Monday was identified as the daughter of former NBA player Tyson Wheeler.

Tiara Wheeler, 24, was riding on the back of a dirtbike that ran a red light and collided with an Audi in Groton. Wheeler was thrown from the bike and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the bike, identified as Scott Whipple, 25, was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition.

The New York Post reports that the two were riding among a group of dirtbikes and ATVs, and some did not have their lights on. The group was driving recklessly and did not stop to render aid to the injured parties.

Police Chief Louis J. Fusaro told CT Insider that someone in the group may have stopped but did not render aid and instead tampered with evidence.

“What is most troubling is that someone who may have been traveling with them stopped for this crash and, rather than rendering aid to the critically injured parties, removed the dirt bike from the road,” he said.

Wheeler, who played for the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and is now the assistant coach at Brown University, described his daughter as “…bright. So articulate. So wonderful. So smart.”

He told the outlet she was a “real go-getter” who “got things done.”

In addition to her father, Wheeler is survived by her mother, Farrah, and her two brothers, Tyson, 18, and Tevin, 13.
