OG Maco, the Atlanta rapper known for his 2014 viral hit “U Guessed It” has passed away.
TMZ reports Maco passed away last night at a Los Angeles hospital, surrounded by his family, after battling complications from a gunshot wound to the head. He was 32.
Sources close to the situation confirmed that Maco had been in critical condition since December 12, when he was rushed to the hospital following the shooting. Despite doctors’ efforts to stabilize him, his condition worsened after slipping into a coma. Attempts to conduct a brain scan and address the toxins in his system were ultimately unsuccessful.
The incident that led to Maco’s hospitalization occurred after police responded to a neighbor’s 911 call reporting a gunshot nearby. Authorities later recovered a firearm close to the scene.
Maco’s family, who traveled to Los Angeles to be by his side, are devastated by the loss. The rapper’s death was falsely reported earlier this month, but those rumors were put to rest until today’s confirmation.
OG Maco rose to fame in 2014 with his explosive single “U Guessed It,” a track that captured the energy of Atlanta’s hip-hop scene and became a staple of the viral internet era. The song solidified his place at QC Records, one of the South’s premier labels. In 2015, he was recognized as part of the XXL Freshman class, joining the likes of Vince Staples and K Camp.
Beyond his viral success, Maco’s career was marked by innovation, experimentation, and resilience. He faced significant challenges, including battling a flesh-eating disease in 2019, which he candidly discussed with fans.
