Officials have confirmed that the U.S. has launched a military strike on Syria. Reportedly, two U.S. warships in the Mediterranean Sea have fired at least 50 Tomahawk at Ash Sha’irat military airfield, a government controlled airbase near Homs, Syria. According to NBC News, infrastructure, aircrafts, and runways were hit. The number of casualties has not been released.
Earlier today, it was reported that Donald Trump was weighing the possibility of military retaliation against Syrian President Bashar Assad, who he blames for a chemical attack in northern Syria Tuesday, that killed at least 70 people, including at least a dozen children. Trump believes the chemicals were fired from Ash Sha’irat.
“Yesterday’s chemical attack, a chemical attack that was so horrific, in Syria, against innocent people, including women, small children, and even beautiful little babies, their deaths were an affront to humanity,” Trump said on Wednesday.
This bombing is Trump’s first and most dramatic military order since taking office. Trump is expected to meet Thursday evening with members of his National Security Council at the Mar-a-Lago in Florida. He is also expected to make a statement to the press.
