Conor McGregor, an Irish fighter, is being accused of rape in a lawsuit. A woman in Ireland says that McGregor raped her in a Dublin hotel penthouse in 2018. Prosecutors will not pursue criminal charges against McGregor.
Karen Kessler, a spokesperson for McGregor, is “confident that justice will prevail.”
The New York Times retrieved a claim filed by the woman in the case where she describes what happened. The woman claims she exchanged “flirtatious” messages on Instagram with McGregor, which lead to him sending a car to pick her and a coworker up.
The claim states that the woman believed that she would be partying with McGregor, and on the way to the hotel, a bag of cocaine was “produced,” and she took some. The woman continues, in the claim, that when they got to the penthouse, McGregor summoned her to a bedroom and asked her to perform a sexual act on him. Despite declining, McGregor kissed and removed her clothes. After biting and hitting him, McGregor lifted the woman by her neck three times, and that’s when she stopped fighting back.
According to the New York Times, in the statement given to law enforcement, the woman says she woke up in the early evening of the same day, and McGregor’s friend gave her a drink. The woman had no recollection of what happened after she had the drink; she only remembered being in a taxi. The woman received sexual assault treatment at a hospital. According to the statement, the woman had bruising on most of her body – her face, neck, and right breast.
The lawsuit states that the woman filed a police report a month later describing the psychological and emotional problems she suffers from.
The victim is seeking $1.79 million to $2.13 million to cover wage losses and future earnings, the sale of a home, and the purchase of a new one.
