UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones is in hot water once again. This time, the police are looking at him as a suspect in a hit-and-run accident that left a 25-year-old pregnant woman with a broken arm. According to news sources, Jones is suspected of running a red light early Sunday morning, hitting the woman’s car and causing her to hit a third car as a result of the impact.
Multiple witnesses at the scene, including an off-duty cop, say that the driver fled on foot right after the accident occurred but then quickly came back to his car to retrieve a large amount of cash before running off again. When the officers arrived on the scene, they inspected the silver Buick SUV that caused the accident and found documents belonging to MMA fighter Jon Jones, as well as paperwork indicating that the car was rented by Jones. They also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Albuquerque police have been trying to contact Jones for questioning since Sunday but they have yet to find him.
This latest legal issue comes after Jones got in trouble just a few months ago after he tested positive for cocaine. As a result, he was fined by the UFC and admitted into rehab (though he left after one day).Though initially thought to be a misdemeanor, the charges against Jones have been bumped up to a felony hit-and-run due to the nature of the victim’s injuries.
