Uncle Luke is calling out Jay-Z, saying he is the NFL’s “token Black guy.”
The NFL just announced that singers Shakira and Jennifer Lopez will be performing during the halftime show for the 2020 Super Bowl in Miami. While some were overjoyed with the selections, others, like Uncle Luke, weren’t pleased with the singers. During an interview with TMZ, Luke expressed his dislike for Jay’s moves with the NFL.

I have a serious problem with the @NFL and the people they pick to perform at the Super Bowl. The @NFL has totally disrespected the African American along with Miami entertainment community. Jay-Z this your first job
“[The NFL is] basically showing that, ‘Aye look, let me go get a token black guy, throw him out there, say we’re dealing with systemic racism and say we’re having him involved with the entertainment,” Luke began. “It specifically said that JAY-Z would be involved with the systemic racism and the entertainment. Right now, that’s an F.”
The interview comes after Luke wrote an article for the Miami News Times criticizing Jay-Z and the NFL for choosing Shakira and J-Lo as the halftime entertainment. Luke said the picks should be local acts like Rick Ross, Pitbull or others alike. Luke claimed Jay is in “violation of the G code.” Luke elaborated with TMZ, saying Jay should have put his partnership with the NFL second when it comes to inclusivity. “If they did this and you were at the table… then JAY-Z should have put in his resignation at that point,” Luke said. “If he does not resign or they don’t make this right then [the NFL] is actually using him.” In a later video, Luke addressed concerns about his criticisms and said Pitbull would be a better option.
The full list of performers has yet to be announced. There will reportedly be “more surprise acts.”
