Despite Tekashi69’s catapulting success, and in the wake of his first Top 10 hit “Fefe” featuring NickiMinaj, some fans are refusing to support the rainbow-haired rapper over his criminal history.
Back in 2015, 6ix9ine was charged for his role in creating an explicit video with a 13-year-old girl. A few years later, the rapper pleaded guilty in exchange for no jail time, under conditions that he would apologize to the family and stay out of trouble. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, after that, 6ix9ine still managed to get into trouble, between run-ins with the law, gang activity and additional allegations of predatory behavior. As a result, a few fans are calling for a ban and boycott of the rainbow-haired rapper. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to ABC affiliate WFTV 9, the rapper’s history has led to a petition and a planned protest to block his Sept. 22 performance at CFE Arena at the University. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As of right now, the petition has surpassed 5,000 signatures, demanding UCF nix the big show, but so far, their efforts have come up short.
“Outside performers can rent the space,” UCF officials said in a statement. “However, that does not mean that the university endorses them. At all times, the safety of our campus is our top priority.”
