Some unvaccinated people in Europe are allegedly paying COVID-19-positive to infect them with the virus in exchange for a $150 dinner.
Last week, Italy extended its COVID-19 vaccine mandate to everyone over the age of 50. They only have a few options: get vaccinated, or face termination from their jobs or even be fined. However, if a person has already caught the virus—which must be registered on a person’s health card, they won’t have to receive the vaccination.
Now, people are trying to find ways around it, and one of those ways is by forcing themselves to catch the Rona with the help of people who already have it. “I am urgently looking for a positive and I am willing to pay,” one anti-vaxxer stated, according to Italian police. Officials have been assigned to track and shut down people meeting up to spread the virus to one another, along with other COVID-19-related plots, the Daily Beast reports.
Just like how some threw chickenpox parties, people have allegedly been throwing COVID-19 parties for those who want to contract the disease. And hosts of the parties aren’t being stingy. One alleged incident in Tuscany involved a truffle dinner with Barolo wine for a price of $150, all for the COVID-19-positive guest.
But disease specialist Pier Luigi says people are playing a potentially deadly game that they have no control over. “This uses the same logic as playing Russian roulette. For a person who has never had COVID, who has not been vaccinated, encountering this virus can mean a mild form of the disease, but it can also means ending up in intensive care,” explained Luigi on television in Italy. “The discriminating factor between these two occurrences, probably, lies in genetics. And there is nothing that can be done to know in advance.”
He went on to say: “Nobody can know before getting infected, if they belong to the lucky group that will not have serious consequences or to that less fortunate group that can end up being intubated.”
