New York officials confirmed a “gruesome” accident that left at least six people dead and three injured.
The incident involved an express bus and a Freightliner box truck and took place on State Route 37 in Louisville near the Canadian border just after 6 a.m., New York State Police confirmed.
The bus was carrying more than a dozen passengers when it collided with the bus occupied by only the driver.
The highway was shut down for nearly 12 hours as police worked the scene of the fatal accident. The cause of the accident has not been determined, but snowy conditions were on the roadway.
“Everybody worked really good together,” St. Lawrence County Emergency Services Director Matt Denner said, according to WWNY. “Everybody was on the same page. But like I said it was a very difficult scene for everyone there. We had ambulances from Potsdam from, Canton, Ogdensburg, and Norfork. We were not lacking transporting agencies or EMTS.”
