Just one day after Usher postponed the opening night of his “Past Present Future” tour at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, the R&B superstar has provided fans with a detailed update on the reason behind the unexpected delay. Initially, Usher cited physical discomfort as the cause for the last-minute decision, which was announced just hours before showtime. Now, he’s revealed that a neck injury sustained during rehearsals is the true reason for the postponement.
In a new statement Thursday, Usher explained, “Earlier this week, I suffered an injury to my neck while rehearsing to provide my fans with the greatest USHER show of all time. My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night. Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.”
The announcement comes after fans were left in suspense following the initial postponement, unsure whether the rest of the Atlanta shows scheduled for this week would proceed. Usher’s latest update confirms that all of his shows in Atlanta have been rescheduled to allow time for his recovery. The new dates at State Farm Arena are as follows:
- August 14 show: Rescheduled for December 9
- August 16 show: Rescheduled for December 10
- August 17 show: Rescheduled for December 12
Usher reassured fans that he is committed to delivering the full experience they’ve been eagerly waiting for, once he has fully healed.
“I love my fans and thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100% excellence that you expect from an USHER show and that I will be on stage in your city very soon,” he said.
This tour is a major milestone in Usher’s career, following his standout Super Bowl halftime performance and the release of his ninth studio album, “Coming Home.” The tour, initially planned for 24 North American dates, has been expanded to 58 shows, with a European leg slated for 2025.
Despite this setback, Usher’s team remains optimistic that the rest of the tour will proceed as scheduled, with the next stop planned for Washington, D.C., on August 20.
