Back in March, Usher and his wife, Grace Miguel, split after two years of marriage and almost ten years together. Though the split came amid allegations of sexually transmitted diseases on the superstar’s part, the two released a joint statement revealing the decision was mutual.
Nine months later, Usher filed for divorce.
But now, new details have surfaced about the singer’s petition for divorce, as The Blast reports Usher tried to keep the filing hidden from the public.
In new documents obtained by the publication, Usher filed a motion to seal the case to keep the records hidden from the world, for the sake of his family.
According to Usher, the divorce is personal, sensitive and confidential, and ultimately, he believed it should remain that way. In the docs, he said if the details of the divorce were to be revealed to the public, they could “serve to compromise the safety and well-being of the parties to this action and those third parties with whom they have professional and contractual obligations.”
Although news of the filing still hit the headlines, the singer’s legal team took extra precautions in using both his and Miguel’s initials on the documents.
In the meantime, according to The Blast, the two have very little to work out in court as they have already settled on all issues, including Grace’s request to change her name back to Harry. However, a court has yet to rule.
