The United States Postal Service (USPS) has suspended service in a Santa Monica neighborhood in California due to workers allegedly being threatened and assaulted.
Anyone who has seen postal workers be attacked is instructed to call Postal Inspectors at 1-877-876-2455. A few reports of mail carriers being attacked by an individual. One incident included a mail carrier being assaulted by a person with a broomstick in the 1300 block of 14th Street this past January.
The carrier didn’t need any major medical attention, but they did sustain a minor injury to their arm.
As a result, residents in this area will no longer be receiving mail delivery services. The service suspension notice was posted at apartment mailboxes in the 1300 block of 14th Street.
“This is unfortunate, but please be advised that the Post Service does not enter into decision to suspend service lightly,” the letter stated, NBC Los Angeles reports. “Multiple carriers have been subjected to assaults and threats of assault.” Residents say the crimes involve just one suspect. “He’s been violent, several times that we’ve seen,” said resident Jim Price.
