Uvalde school board will not take legal action against the police chief whose orders delayed action against the gunman.
On Friday, Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Board announced they’re not taking disciplinary action against District Police Chief Pete Arredondo. Since the shooting, Arredondo has been under fire for not having a tactical response toward the shooter.
The tragic shooting at Robb Elementary ended with nineteen children and two adults killed. The 18-year-old gunman barricaded himself inside a classroom with children. Meanwhile, Arredondo and nineteen other officers stood outside the classroom for over an hour before responding.
Authorities later said Arrendondo was the one who gave the orders not to enter the classroom because he believed the gunman was alone. Texas Department of Public Safety also accuses Arrendondo of not cooperating with officials for a proper investigation into the incident.
During the school board meeting, officials announced that Robb Elementary would be permanently closed. Superintendent Hal Harrell says the school will be moved to a new location. The previous building will be transformed into “something other than a school site.”
