The grandfather of school shooter Salvador Ramos has broken his silence following the tragic murders of 19 children at the hands of his grandson.
Rolando Reyes spoke out about Salvador, who lived with him and his wife, Celia Martinez Gonzales. The 72-year-old says that with his criminal past, he was not allowed to have guns inside his home and would have reported his grandson had he known about them. Salvador, who turned 18 on May 16th, purchased weapons the day after his birthday and again on May 20th. Rolando says on the morning of the shooting, Salvador and his grandmother had a minor dispute over him paying his phone bill. He then shot her in the face and fled in her truck with his weapons, which included at least one AR-15. Rolando was not present. After wrecking the vehicle in a ditch, Salvador entered the nearby Robb Elementary School and opened fire.
When asked if he believed the attack was premeditated, Rolando admitted he was unsure.
“I can’t say whether he was planning to do this or not. That’s a question that’s going to haunt me for the rest of my life,” he told The Post.
Salvador documented his demented plans the morning of the tragedy. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “I’m going to shoot my grandmother.” In a follow-up, he wrote, “I shot my grandmother.” Celia remains in critical condition at a San Antonio hospital. In his third and final post, shortly after arriving at Robb Elementary, he wrote, “I’m going to shoot an elementary school.”
Rolando says his grandson did not show signs of violence but was very quiet. He dropped out of high school and refused to return. When Rolando pressed him about it, Salvador would shrug it off.
In total, Salvador killed 21 people, including 19 students, and two teachers who tried their best to protect the children. Salvador was killed by responding officers.
