Dr. Anthony Fauci says a vaccine mandate should be considered for domestic flights.
Dr. Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President, is suggesting the possibility of a vaccine mandate being implemented for domestic flights as the rise of COVID-19 cases and flight cancellations continue.
Reuters reports more than 1,000 flights were canceled this past Monday. In addition, airlines have been suffering from staff shortages, with employees staying off to evade the spread of the virus.
Fauci says it’s time to consider a vaccine mandate for U.S.-based flights. “That is just another one of the requirements that I think is reasonable to consider,” Fauci told MSNBC during an interview. Reuters reports that Biden has yet to speak on whether or not he supports a vaccine for domestic flights in the country.
Fauci said he doubts Biden would make an order for a mask mandate for domestic flights “in the reasonable foreseeable future.”
