Van Lathan says Kanye West doesn’t want “free speech” but instead would rather have “white speech.”
In a recent interview with VladTV, Lathan speaks on some of Kanye’s controversial comments and opinions. Back in 2018, Van interviewed Kanye and during the TMZ Live segment where the rapper infamously said “slavery was a choice.”
In the midst of the interview, Vlad mentioned some of Ye’s outrageous remarks on Drink Champs. Lathan ignored the statements but did give credit to Kanye calling him a “visionary creator.” However, Van finished off his comment by asking, “is it worth digging through the sh*t to get to the jewels?”
Van then speaks on how Kanye has a need to be accepted as “great” by his peers. “Some things have to do with the perception he has of himself. There are some things that have to do with how people treat him.”
Even though Lathan took a minute to give Ye his flowers, he ultimately is still bothered by Kanye’s opinion on free speech.
“Kanye talks about free speech, right? He talks about the fact that he should be able to say whatever he wants to say, and that’s true. But he doesn’t seem to like other people’s free speech very much… Kanye doesn’t want free speech. What he actually wants is white speech,” Lathan says.
Now if you don’t know what “white speech” is, Lathan says it is “saying whatever you want to say and there being absolutely zero repercussions for you saying it.”
Lathan also added, “that is how white people used to run America and talk to Black people in the days of old.”
