Vanessa Williams is set to portray the iconic fictional character Miranda Priestly in the upcoming London musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada, which is scheduled to begin performances in October.
On Monday, Williams, 60, took to Instagram to reveal that she would play the role of Miranda Priestly, the iconic fictional Runway magazine editor-in-chief. “Yes…it’s me,” she captioned her post.
“Don’t just sit there,” she says in the video. “Buy tickets, or something,” In a caption to that post, Williams added, “That’s All…Now buy some tickets to @pradawestend #thehouseofmiranda.”
“Bringing Miranda Priestly to life in the West End is an absolute dream come true. Gird your loins, folks,” Williams told Variety about her new role.
Casting for the Devil Wears Prada musical is still pending. The exclusive preview will be at Theatre Royal Plymouth in July before the West End opening at London’s Dominion Theatre in October.
The 2006 film starred Anne Hathaway as aspiring journalist Andy Sachs, who becomes the personal assistant to Meryl Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly. Streep, 74, received an Academy Award nomination for her role, and the movie ranked as the 12th-highest-grossing film of 2006.
