Venus Williams Claps Back at Reporter Asking If She’d Go Hard On Sister Serena in a Match [Video]

Oop! Venus Williams had to get a reporter in line who attempted to pit her against her sister at Wimbledon over the weekend.

The shady moment occurred after Venus played in the mixed doubles competition alongside fellow tennis star Jamie Murray on Saturday. The two faced off with Michael Venus and Alicja Rosolska, winning their first-round match against the duo. Following their first victory, Venus and Jamie spoke to reporters during a press conference. One reporter overstepped his boundaries by asking Venus and Jamie if they were “in it to win it” if they had to compete against their famous siblings in the next round. Jamie’s brother is the famed tennis star Andy Murray.

Both Jamie and Venus seemed confused by the correspondent’s question, but Venus quickly brushed it off. That did not stop him from continuing to pry.

“Are you in it for the experience, or are you going to go all the way?” he went on to ask. Venus wasted no time clapping back, asking, “Are you going to write a good article or just a halfway decent one?”

The reporter was seemingly referring to Serena’s and Andy’s defeat in earlier rounds of Wimbledon’s singles competition. Nevertheless, Venus would not allow any Serena shade in her presence. Following the humbling moment, the reporter replied, “I’ll do what I usually do,” to which Venus quickly fired back, “Us too.”

Venus and Jamie did not excel beyond the second match against Alicia Barnett and Jonny O’Mara.

Serena is unphased by her unexpected Wimbledon loss. In an Instagram post following her defeat to Harmony Tan of France, she shared an optimistic viewpoint on the match.

“Not the result I came for, but my goodness I enjoyed that. I hope you did as well,” the 40-year-old wrote.
