When Megan Thee Stallion told us to drive the boat, one man understood the assignment a bit too well, stealing a million-dollar yacht for a 48-hour joyride.
According to reports, 56-year-old Robert Morris of Vermont hijacked “Volans,” a $1.2 million 48-foot Jeanneau Prestige 500 yacht from the Rouses Point Marina in New York on Tuesday. Morris had the vessel for two days before Border Patrol apprehended him. The thief told authorities that the yacht’s owner, Ron McCarthy, gave him permission to bring the boat to Montreal, where he resides, though McCarthy denies these claims.
The St. Albans Police Department on Burton Island confirmed that Morris now faces several charges, including possession of stolen property and operating without the owner’s consent. Since Morris crossed state lines during his last-minute cruise, he is also being investigated by the U.S. Customs, the New York State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
One Rouses Point resident says that the area has “no burglaries” and that the bold heist was surprising to everyone in the community.
Unfortunately for Morris, his hot boy summer has come to an abrupt and incarcerated end.
