If you aren’t familiar with VH1’s Couples Therapy, it’s a show about celebrity couples who are a lot more messed up than we think. From drug abuse, to sex changes, to trust issues, these couples confide in Dr. Jenn to help salvage whatever parts of their relationship they possibly can. After realizing how dynamic and relatable these couples are (I mean who hasn’t dealt with trust issues), I decided to come up with a couple’s profile for each celebrity pair. Read each profile and share which couple you relate to the most
Big Ang & Neil Murphy: Big Ang is the breadwinner of the two, supporting the household with her earnings from Mob Wives. The disparity in earnings, gives Big Ang the leeway she needs to berate Neil, and often accuses him of lying and cheating. Neil on the other hand, doesn’t admit to cheating but does admit to lying, disappearing, and sometimes stealing money from Big Ang, just to get payback. He admits he’s scared of talking to her, and desires to be more of a man in the relationship. This couple needs to work on establishing gender roles, learning to share, and fair communication.
Kaylin Garcia & Joe Budden: Kaylin feels like Joe broke her heart after he openly pursued his ex Tahiry, complete with a publicly televised proposal. Meanwhile she stayed in his home, hoping and waiting for Joe to eventually come back to her; devaluing herself completely. Joe on the other hand, feels like he was honest with her, told her what he wanted, but that Kaylin is too young to appreciate that, and agrees that because of her lack of self value, he too has a hard time valuing her. This couple needs to work on rebuilding trust, self worth, and age differences.
Carmen Carrera & Adrian Torres: Carmen, a popular model, is a transgender woman who met Adrian when she was a man. In the beginning of her transition, she didn’t tell Adrian her plans of becoming a woman, and created an immediate trust issue between the two. From that first breach of trust, Carmen and Adrian both committed infidelities, further hurting one another. Both are suffering from scars and trust issues, but still have a very deep love for one another, and want to make it work. This couple needs to work on healing from the past, focusing on the positives, and rebuilding trust.
Scott Stapp & Jaclyn Stapp: Scott is a member of the band Creed, and former drug addict. After taking Scott back multiple times, Jaclyn decided to put her foot down when Scott abandoned her for his most recent drug relapse. During his drug binge, he ran away from home, leaving his wife and kids, began hallucinating, starving himself, and recorded the entire binge, uploading it to his social media for the world to see. Now, Jaclyn has taken away all of his daddy duties, and has absolutely zero trust for Scott: constantly plagued with the possibility of him relapsing again. This couple needs to work on addiction issues, abandonment issues, and trust.
Janice Dickinson & Dr. Robert Gerner: So far we’ve only gotten a glimpse of how angry and temperamental Janice can get: snapping whenever he speaks, talking over him, plays victim in every argument and doesn’t allow him to express himself. Though it hasn’t been obvious to us yet, Janice claims, that Dr. Gerner has a temper of his own, where he talks down to her, acts controlling and belittles her. This couple needs to work on controlling their tempers, learn to listen, and be as fair as possible.
If we look close enough, we can find bits of our relationships in at least one of these couples. I personally relate with Janice Dickinson and Dr. Gerner, as I have a bad habit of playing victim, and acting like the world is out to get me. Once you find which couple you resemble the most, I challenge you to tune into Couples Therapy and take advantage of the opportunity to save thousands, get free counseling, and save your relationship!
