Investigators made a gruesome discovery under the home of a suspected serial killer in Mexico. Authorities discovered thousands of bone fragments believed to belong to at least 17 victims.
Vice reports that a 71-year-old man was arrested last month in Atizapán de Zaragoza after the wife of a police officer went missing. Having accompanied the man, only identified as Andrés due to Mexican privacy laws, grocery shopping, the officer obtained surveillance video showing her entering the man’s house and never leaving.
The officer went to the house and confronted the man and discovered his dismembered wife’s body inside. When investigators subsequently searched the house, they found numerous identification cards of other potential victims. They also found makeup, women’s clothing, jewelry, and multiple cell phones. Nearly 100 photographs, 25 VHS cassettes, and 28mm videotapes were also discovered inside the home.
Andrés has already confessed to several of the murders, but the exact number of victims is unknown. Authorities suspect the murders may have spanned decades. Having previously worked as a butcher, he sectioned and filleted his latest victim. The number of bone fragments found, totaling 3,787, suggests he may have done the same thing to his other victims.
The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities announced they would begin searching other parts of the property. They believe there could be additional victims elsewhere on the man’s property.
