NBA rookie Victor Wembanyama says that Britney Spears didn’t just tap his shoulder but actually grabbed him from behind.

Shortly after news broke that San Antonio Spurs Director of Security, Damian Smith, had smacked Britney Spears, Wembanyama broke his silence on the incident, speaking with reporters about his version of the Las Vegas events. According to the 19-year-old, his guard instructed him not to stop for fear that a large crowd would gather as he walked through the Catch restaurant in the Aria Hotel. Wembanyama explained that the pop star approached him and grabbed him as he walked, leading to Smith pushing her away. However, he says he never turned around to see the individual but was later informed when he returned to his hotel that it was, in fact, Spears.

Spears and her team reportedly received an apology from Smith at the restaurant, but that did not stop them from filing a police report. In her own statement, the “Gimme More” star says the “traumatic” event stemmed from her simply trying to congratulate Wembanyama on his success. She maintains that she only tapped his shoulder, which led to Smith backhanding her in the face without turning around. The 41-year-old also reiterated what she said in the police report: the hit sent her down to the floor.

“I get swarmed by people all the time. In fact, that night, I was swarmed by a group of at least 20 fans. My security team didn’t hit any of them,” Spears wrote, adding that she has not received a public apology from Smith, the Spurs, or Wembanyama.

Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, is also standing by his wife, confirming that the assault indeed took place.

“I hope the man in question learns his lesson and changes his disregard for women,” he wrote in his IG Story.

It looks like this back-and-forth is only heating up, with both sides offering extremely contradicting stories.
