At just 21 years old, this competitive dancer, entrepreneur, and aspiring lawyer outshone over 120 contestants in Mexico City on Saturday. She earned applause from her fellow competitors as she was crowned by the outgoing titleholder, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.
The breathtaking event, hosted by Mario Lopez and Olivia Culpo, featured a memorable performance by Robin Thicke and saw the contestants whittled down to 30 before the final rounds. The competitors showcased their poise in swimwear and evening gowns and responded to thought-provoking questions on leadership, resilience, and change.
When asked how she would live differently if no one judged her, Theilvig responded, “I live by each day,” reflecting her grounded yet ambitious nature. Her message to viewers resonated deeply.
“Keep fighting … no matter where you come from. I stand here today because I want a change, I want to make history, and that’s what I’m doing tonight,” she stated on stage.
Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria was named first runner-up, and Maria Fernanda Beltran of Mexico earned second runner-up. The final night also celebrated the inclusion of contestants from nations like Cuba, Belarus, and Eritrea, reflecting Miss Universe’s ongoing modernization. The 2024 pageant marked the first time women over 28 could compete, with Malta’s Beatrice Njoya, the only contestant in her 40s, breaking new ground.
