New surveillance footage suggests that two TSA officers at Miami International Airport were inspecting travelers’ bags and potentially stealing money during screenings.
In July, both Josue Gonzalez and Labarrius Williams were arrested and are now facing grand theft charges.
The third TSA Agent was initially arrested but had her charges dropped.
As per the arrest reports, authorities initiated an inquiry into thefts that had taken place at Security Checkpoint E.
According to the reports, detectives found surveillance footage that showed the officers diverting passengers’ attention during the screening process to facilitate the theft of money from their belongings.
In one specific instance, TSA provided video footage that showed Williams and Josue Gonzalez taking $600 from a passenger’s wallet while the passenger was undergoing screening.
On Monday, a video was released that showed both agents casually inspecting a black bag’s pocket. When one agent steps away, the other appears to pocket something from the bin.
In another video, an agent reaches into a Louis Vuitton bag, takes an item from the pouch, and sets it aside. Later, the same agent is shown retrieving the item before it goes through the screening.
Gonzalez has entered a program that may lead to charges being dropped if completed. In the coming months, He must pay $700 to the victims, do 25 hours of community service, and give up his airport security credentials.
Williams, however, was denied entry into the program and will go to trial.
