Thanks to a viral TikTok, more than 2,500 descended onto Huntington Beach, California. The massive gathering ended with nearly 150 arrests.
The party, posted by user adrian.lopez517 and titled “Adrian’s Kickback,” was intended to have people come out to celebrate the poster’s birthday. Throughout the week, the post started going viral. The hashtag was viewed more than 203 million times.
“The initial crowd at the beach grew in size and moved to the downtown area where it was estimated to be over 2,500,” said the Huntington Beach Police Department.
The crowd became unruly, setting off fireworks, throwing bottles, rocks, and other miscellaneous objects at officers. There were reports of vandalism to area businesses, police vehicles, and lifeguard towers. Video circulated on social media showing the chaos.

In total, 121 adults and 28 juveniles were arrested for curfew violations, vandalism, firing dangerous/illegal fireworks, and failure to disperse. Â
No significant injuries were reported by EMTs who were on standby.Â
An emergency curfew remained in effect from 11:30 p.m. Saturday through 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning.Â
