That viral video of a Tesla speed-driving and taking flight over a hill in the Echo Park neighborhood in California has police now investigating the incident.
Over the weekend, someone uploaded a video of a person speeding uphill in a Tesla and launching the vehicle in the air. The car landed on the other side of the street and screeched to a stop, hitting two parked cars and multiple trash cans on the street.
CBS News reports the video was recorded at around 12:10 a.m. on Sunday. Someone in the video can be heard saying, “Holy sh*t!”
The Tesla was a 2018 S model that had been rented.
No one was killed, but detective Juan Campos says the incident could have ended very differently. “Luckily, nobody got killed. … One wrong move and it would’ve gone to the left or right and we would’ve had a different story than just property damage,” said Campos in a statement via Zoom. The car was reportedly left at the scene, and there was no information police were able to find that could connect them to the driver.
Neighbors in the area say they are upset as this isn’t the first time they’ve had to undergo these types of stunts.
“I heard the crash, I felt the crash,” said Jordan Hook, whose car was hit during the stunt. “The cringe-worthy thing that gets your blood boiling isn’t necessarily the car jumping and crashing” said Jordan. “It’s the attitude of these guys and the fact that they’re so cocky about it. Then they just get up and leave after it’s done.”
In the meantime, police are launching more patrol cars in the area as the investigation continues.
