A 40-year-old man is off the streets after authorities took him into custody on kidnapping and abduction charges.
Nathan Daniel Larson is allegedly a known white supremacist and resides in Catlett, Virginia. He is also an advocate for pedophilia and once spearheaded a website that contained child exploitation materials, NBC Washington News says.
Authorities say Larson groomed a 12-year-old girl from California over the internet for weeks before trying to fly her to Virginia. Police believe there may be other victims targeted by Larson’s “sophisticated” methods.
“This particular case is extremely disturbing,” Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims stated.
According to the news outlet, the minor lives in Fresno, California. Larson started communicating with her in the middle of October through various social media platforms and convinced her to send inappropriate pictures of herself.
Larson traveled by plane from Virginia to Fresno to meet the 12-year-old. 2 AM Monday, he persuaded her to sneak out of her home and into a rideshare vehicle to go to the Fresno airport.
At the airport, authorities say he told the victim to put on a wig and act disabled as if she were unable to speak; that way, no one could converse with her before boarding the plane.
Police issued a missing person report that same day. The Central California Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force stepped in after learning from a friend that the victim had been talking to a man online.
Fresno Airport Police and Homeland Security Investigations realized the victim was on the plane headed for Washington, D.C. Surveillance cameras at the airport captured “activity at the airport, that was inappropriate,” Mims stated. The evidence will likely be used in the case against the predator.
Thankfully the flight had a layover in Denver, where the local police were able to arrest Larson. The victim was returned home later that night, uninjured.
Larson has picked up a harboring a minor charge in Denver, and felony charges of child abduction, soliciting child pornography, and meeting a child for sex intention are expected once he’s extradited to California, authorities say.
If convicted, the felony charges could land him in prison for life. His first day in court is December 24.
“Nathan Larson has a deeply disturbing background,” Mims said. “This is a man who runs a website, which encourages the raping of children and sharing of naked photos and video of children being raped.”
Authorities raided his home and took electronic devices. During their search, there was a physical altercation with Larson’s 69-year-old father, who is accused of attacking an agent. He was arrested and later released on bond.
This isn’t Larson’s first run-in with the police. In 2009 he was sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to emailing the Secret Service saying he intended to kill the president “in the near future.”
Another disturbing revelation is that three years ago, he ran for a Virginia delegate seat but lost. The Washington Post described him as “pro-incest, pedophilia and rape” because he wanted to change laws to allow incest and sex with minors.
“It’s obvious that Larson had the ability to be in contact with children across the nation and the willingness and the means to travel to abduct them. We believe that there are other victims out there,” Mims said.
The ICAC Task Force is involved in Larson’s investigation and asks anyone who has had inappropriate contact with him in Virginia to email [email protected].
“This arrest in Denver, Colorado and follow up investigation in Catlett, Virginia signifies that if you attempt to steal the innocence of a child, we as law enforcement are committed to prevention efforts and to hold would be and actual perpetrators accountable,” Fauquier County Sheriff Robert P. Mosier said.
