Just hours after the legendary Queen of Soul transitioned at the age of 76, an argument over Aretha Franklin’s legacy and career resulted in violence.⠀⠀
According to local news, the incident occurred around 10:43 am in Suffolk, Virginia at the intersection of East Washington Street and Liberty Street.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Witnesses say the argument erupted over Franklin’s legacy, which spanned six decades, and whether or not Halle Berry ever played the Queen of Soul in a movie. As the verbal dispute escalated, the two men began to fight before one pulled out a gun and shot the other.
Both men were transported to local hospitals for treatment. While the suspect’s condition remains unknown, the gunshot victim is said to be in serious condition. The investigation is ongoing.
In the meantime, officials were unable to confirm or deny the reason for the altercation. But according to reports, in 2011 Franklin expressed her interest in having Berry portray her in a biopic. Since then, Jennifer Hudson has signed on for the role of Franklin in her forthcoming biopic.
