Police are looking for a Virginia mother in connection to an assault on a student and staff at the Gildersleeve Middle School.
Keyazia Pitt, 30, is charged with simple assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
On Thursday, Pitt was at the school for a conference with the school’s administration and other family members. After the meeting, she and her child went to the cafeteria and assaulted a student instead of leaving the premises.
“A parent came into the office with several members of her family and signed her child out and then instead of leaving the building, went into the cafeteria where she, her child and several family members assaulted another student,” an employee of the school who asked not to be identified told 10 On Your Side.
A teacher and security tried to break up the fight during the altercation. In the process, they were both shoved by Pitt.
At the time of the fight, there was no school resource officer in the building. Pitt fled the school before police arrived.
“With no SRO, we have no ability to handle that. It is disturbing because half of the eighth grade was in the cafeteria,” said the employee.
The outlet reports that both the teacher and security guard are back at work. Additionally, the students have been disciplined according to school guidelines. There was an increased police presence at the school on Friday.
