For most of our lives we’ve known #KanyeWest for being the liberal voice that speaks against social injustice, police brutality and other conservative ideas. However, now it seems he’s taken a right turn – literally.

#AlexJones, #BillOReilly and most recently #CandaceOwens are the latest right-wing political analysts that have either supported West or been embraced by him. For a moment though let’s discuss Ms. Owens, who this past Friday at UCLA explained that because the recent generations of Black folk didn’t endure the hardships of slavery, the 400 plus years of oppression somehow doesn’t affect us. In turn, referring to us [Black people] as “overly privileged Americans.” In response, West tweeted “I love the way Candace Owens thinks.”

This is the same West that gave us “Two Words,” “Heard Em’ Say” and “Crack Music.” The same “conscious rapper” that wasn’t afraid to tell the world “George Bush doesn’t like Black people,” after Bush’s extremely delayed response to the Hurricane Katrina tragedy in the predominately Black city of New Orleans.

He, who was once our Undercover Brother is now seemingly an alter-ego that of Anton Jackson. With that being said, in the last few months he’s gone public about his admiration for Trump, and has been celebrated by right-wing politicians like Jones who tweeted to West saying, “I admire your bold moves against the thought police. And if you want to see these control-freak vampires really go crazy, please join me on my broadcast!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Even O’Reilly who once criticized West and hip-hop is rooting for him. “Kanye West finds himself under attack by American Stalinists. Please read my column posted right now on BOR.com about the attack crew. Frightening. I’ll deal with Mr. West tomorrow,” said O’Reilly defended Kanye after his backlash from fans.

Those are only a few conservative names who have endorsed West in the last year and they continue to grow. Whether West continues to tweet that Black people are “self-victimizing” themselves or that Black people bringing up the past will keep us “stuck there,” we must remind ourselves that racism is still alive and well. Racial injustice, Jim Crow, and segregation are the foundations for which police brutality and systematic racism were born. Because still one in every 15 Black men will be incarcerated and Black women are STILL being paid 63 cents for every dollar a white man earns. These aren’t just feelings, these are facts.
