Walmart donated over $14 million to 16 organizations, honoring their pledge to donate $100 million over the next five years to support racial equity. The company made the pledge after George Floyd was killed last year.
According to the New York Post, $1 million went to the Student Freedom Initiative, which supports historically black colleges and universities and another $1 million went to the Association of Black Foundation Executives, which promotes philanthropic efforts in black communities.
Doug McMillon, Chief Executive at Walmart, said the company plans to recruit more people of color. According to the New York Post, a report said that about 12 percent of the company’s managers and 7 percent of its officers are black.
