Walmart is launching a delivery service to jump into the food delivery industry.
DoorDash and Instacart, move out of the way because Walmart is about to give you a run for your money. On Tuesday, the grocery store giant announced it would start commercializing its delivery platform, Fox Business reports. It plans to deliver goods and other products with the help of drones and contract workers.
Walmart has always had a delivery service and Express delivery. But now, the retailer wants to scale a part of it down to focus on serving local communities and businesses.
“We’ve worked hard to develop a reliable last-mile delivery program for our customers. Now, we’re pleased to be able to use these capabilities to serve another set of customers, local merchants,” said Tom Ward, senior vice president of customer products at Walmart.
The company has already solidified partnerships with several national and small-businesses clients who will work with them on the new venture. The extension of the delivery service is set to start in the next few months, reports Fox Business.
