Walmart is looking to remove cashiers and conveyor belts from one of their superstore centers and replace them with all self-checkout lanes, Fox5 is reporting.
The change is happening at store #359, located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and the retailer will be measuring check out times to see if they decrease. Walmart is also trying to limit human interaction due to coronavirus and thinks this might be the solution.
Store employees will be on hand to assist anyone that may need help with the self-checkout process.
If successful, the concept could expand to other Walmart locations.
Walmart has also recently launched Walmart Pay amid the coronavirus pandemic, which offers touch-free payment by using your phone with the hopes that shoppers will feel more comfortable while attempting to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.
