Wanda Sykes opened up about her experience as host of what is fast becoming the most infamous Oscar night ever. The comedian who hosted the award show alongside Regina Hall and Amy Schumer told Ellen DeGeneres that the slap now dubbed “the slap heard round the world” made her feel “ill.”
In a clip from the upcoming episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Sykes discussed what she saw in the aftermath and her immediate empathy for her longtime friend, Chris Rock.
“I just felt so awful for my friend, Chris. It was sickening. I physically felt ill. I’m still a little traumatized by it,” Sykes told DeGeneres who agreed with her.
She also revealed that Rock apologized to her at Guy Oseary’s Oscars after-party, telling her, “it was supposed to be your night.”
Sykes also explained that the slap felt like a direct insult to her and her co-hosts because they had all worked really hard to put a great show together.
“We worked really hard to put that show together — so I’m like, what the hell is this?” Sykes continued.
