Thousands gathered in Washington D.C. on Saturday to protest the incoming Trump administration, echoing the Women’s March from eight years ago, which had launched in response to Trump’s first term.

With the new administration looming, the message was clear: fight for abortion rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and the environment.

Jill Parrish from Austin, Texas, summed it up: “I’m here to demonstrate my fear about the state of our democracy.”

As protesters marched, signs like “Against abortions? Then don’t have one” and “Save America” highlighted the rally’s broad goals. While the crowd was smaller than the original 2017 march, the sentiment remained strong.

“We’re not thinking about the march as the endgame,” said Tamika Middleton, emphasizing that the fight would continue through local action.

The march, now called the People’s March, aimed to unite diverse causes under one banner. Professor Jo Reger pointed out that such broad-based efforts often spark change by integrating diverse, underrepresented voices. Amid chants and solidarity, Rachel O’Leary Carmona reminded everyone, “Before we do anything about democracy, we have to fight our own despair.”

The event was more than a protest; it was a call to keep fighting for justice and equity in every community.
