Water From Disney’s Shuttered Splash Mountain Ride Hits EBay For Thousands

Resellers are trying to capitalize on the nostalgia surrounding the closure of Walt Disney World’s iconic Splash Mountain ride. Used water from the now-defunct attraction has hit eBay for some genuinely jaw-dropping prices.

The listings popped up on the site shortly after the ride officially closed on Jan. 22. A quick search of “Splash Mountain Water” yields 215 results, with prices as high as in the tens of thousands.

One listing shows a display photo of a water bottle with “Splash Mountain Water” written in marker. It is currently at $10,400.00 with 16 bids. There is still more than a day left on the listing.

Other listings range from $.99 to over $9,000.00. The water is contained in various containers, such as mason jars, plastic bags, and even food storage containers. But is it real? Who knows. Multiple listings have the same photo, even though they are from different sellers.

Splash Mountain opened at Magic Kingdom in 1992, but calls grew louder for it to be rethemed due to its connection to the 1946 movie “Song of the South.” The film has been criticized for its racist stereotypes and rosy portrayal of the relationship between slaves and their white masters.

It has been announced that the Splash Mountain ride in Disneyland is rumored to be shutting down sometime in May. Both attractions are expected to reopen in 2024 as “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure,” themed after the “Princes and the Frog.” The ride’s story will pick up after the film’s final kiss, and Tiana will be joined by Naveen and Louis.

No plans have been announced for the ride’s future in Tokyo Disneyland.

In addition to the new attraction, Tiana will get her own Disney+ series sometime this year.
