Wayne Brady feels free in his recently revealed sexuality.
Weeks after the 51-year-old comedian announced he was pansexual, he is now explaining why he chose to be open with not only his fans but himself and his future partners.
“It would be hard for me to truly put myself 100 percent into a relationship when there’s this nagging doubt that I have not explored that piece of me. Or even given voice to having that option,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
Brady was once married to Mandie Taketa, and the two share a daughter, 20-year-old Maile. Despite the couple being divorced in 2008, they remain close friends. For this reason, Taketa was the first person Brady told about his sexuality. Taketa shared with People that she immediately accepted his revelation, knowing it would bring him peace.
The “Wayne Brady Show” star says he isn’t sure that he will actually date one specific person. However, he is open to dating whomever he is attracted to “no matter the vessel.”
“I’m saying it is very possible for me to be attracted to the man because of the person. I can be attracted to this beautiful woman because of the person. But then again, that may be a non-binary person that might go, ‘Oh, I’m attracted to you. I’m attracted to this trans person,'” he clarified.
Brady feels relief now, able to step out into the world, knowing he no longer hides that part of himself. Despite now being comfortable in his skin, Brady is currently single.
