Wayne Newton may be heading to court over allegations that his monkey, Boo, bit a 15-year-old girl.
The Associated Press reported the incident happened two years ago at his former estate, Casa de Shenandoah in Las Vegas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to reports, The mother, Jocelyne Urena, is aiming to receive $15K in damages on behalf of her daughter, Genevieve, based on the civil negligence complaint filed Wednesday, August 7, 2019.
Their lawyer, Marc Naron will argue the monkey bit the girl unprovoked, in which Genevieve received proper hospital treatment for the bite to her right wrist. He also says the monkey was not caged nor on a leash during the time of the visit. Although the mother and daughter are suing Newton, their lawyer says he’s unsure if any of the Newton family was present during their visit two years ago.
However, in a statement made to PEOPLE, both Newton and his wife Kathleen stated neither of them knew of the incident as they had cut ties with the company running the estate months before the Urena’s visit.
“With regard to this lawsuit, we have not seen the complaint, but our company ceased running Casa de Shenandoah July 1, 2017, due to Wayne’s almost dying from a spider bite,” they said in the statement.
The lavish Casa de Shenandoa, sitting on 40 acres features exotic animals, Arabian horses, and had been in the Newton family for 40 years. In 2010, they sold the home to CSD LLC, who opened the home to the public as a tourist attraction. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Associated Press, the Newton’s moved into another home in 2013.
In their statement, they added, “So we are not a party and have no idea what happened in Oct 2017.”
