Harvey Weinstein recently sat down with The Post for an exclusive interview. However, the disgraced Hollywood heavyweight did not speak on the allegations against him. Instead, he proudly boasted of his accolades and voiced his frustration for the way he has been exiled from the industry.
“I made more movies directed by women and about women than any filmmaker, and I’m talking about 30 years ago. I’m not talking about now when it’s vogue. I did it first! I pioneered it!” he bragged as he conducted the interview from a couch, while he recovers at the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center following back surgery.
Instead of being remembered as the sexual predator who has been charged with five counts of predatory sexual assault, criminal sex act, and rape in the cases, claims which he refuses to address, the frail director would like to be remembered for his brilliance in film.⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I want this city to recognize who I was instead of what I’ve become,” said Weinstein. “It all got eviscerated because of what happened,’’ he continued bitterly. “My work has been forgotten.’’
He stated that he only agreed to the interview to prove to critics, who felt that he was exaggerating his back injuries, that he indeed experienced debilitating damage as a result of a car accident back in August, leaving him relying heavily on a walker.
”This was a major operation.” the 67-year-old insisted.
Weinstein, who goes on trial for rape January 6th in Manhattan Supreme Court, continued by proudly speaking of his role in actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s career. Paltrow is also an accuser of Weinstein, claiming that she was lured to his hotel room under the guise of a business meeting. Instead, he made sexual advances toward the actress, who was 22 at the time and tried to massage her.
“Gwyneth Paltrow in 2003 got $10 million to make a movie called ‘View from the Top,’ ” said the disgraced director, referring to the romantic comedy and his decision to pay the star the large salary for the independent film.
“She was the highest-paid female actor in an independent film. Higher-paid than all the men.”
While he refused to address the allegations directly and threatened to cancel the interview several times when were are mentioned, he did allude to the fact that the accusations against him are untrue.
“If you remember who I was then, you might want to question some of this.”
