Just under a week ago, TV personality Wendy Williams made comments regarding HBCU’s and the NAACP, which caused quite the negative response from viewers. Now, the talk show host has reportedly took a big hit in the wake of her anti-HBCU comment particularly.
According to lovebscott.com, an all-inclusive deal with the automobile company, Chevrolet, has been halted as the company has allegedly backed out in response to Williams’ comments. Though no official statement has been released from the company, as it turns out the woman who is solely responsible for organizing the partnership, President and CEO of ACE Media Andrea Holmes Thompkins, is an alumna of Howard University– a very prominent HBCU.
Williams’ comments came in response to a speech done by Jesse Williams during the BET Awards in regards to the state of black lives in America. Williams took to her show to critique the speech, and took the chance to criticize the existence of both the NAACP and HBCU’s.
“I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP,” she stated.
Viewers of the show and others who caught the clip have since taken to multiple media platforms to educate the former radio host on the actual need for both entities.
Williams has not yet made a statement on the incident.
