Wendy Williams’s brother, Tommy Williams, has denied reports that the controversial talk show star is suffering from dementia while off the air.
Wendy’s absence from her talk show has been attributed to “ongoing health issues,” from COVID-19 and Graves’ disease complications. In mid-September, she was admitted to the hospital for “psychiatric services” after it was revealed she would be taking a hiatus from her show for “further evaluation.”
Since the 57-year-old has been missing for the third month in a row, speculation has grown that she is suffering from early-onset dementia.
Her brother addressed the supposed false dementia talk, informing The Sun that his sister has not been “displaying that type of behavior to the family” despite the rumors that are being reported.
“We haven’t had any alerts like that and I haven’t seen anything like that or have had conversations with her that would lead me to believe that,” he added, before pointing out: “We routinely go up and check on Wendy even though we’re all down here in Florida. ”
Tommy stated that he tries to see Wendy whenever he can, and their father “speaks with Wendy frequently.”
According to OK!, he claims that all of Wendy’s problems stem from her physical health, he said “ We don’t have any concerns concerning her mental state. It’s all physical.”
He even went as far as to declare Wendy is mentally fit enough to see her family in Florida for the holiday weekend. “I am trying to find out if she’s coming down for Thanksgiving. I mean — she’s normal like that.”
While Wendy is on her way to recovery, it’s evident she isn’t quite ready to return to her show. Tommy’s statement about his sister’s mental health came shortly after The Wendy Williams Show announced that Leah Remini would be returning to the daily show.
Starting Monday, November 29, and ending Friday, December 10, she and Michelle Visage will be guest hosts for two weeks.
