After it was announced that Wendy Williams would not be returning to host The Wendy Williams Show, a rep for the talk show host released a statement on her behalf. But Williams is speaking out for herself, saying not so fast.
“It’s been a challenging time for Wendy as she deals with her health issues,” Howard Bragman said in a statement to People. “She is incredibly grateful to Debmar-Mercury, to Sherri and everybody else who has supported the show through this time.”
“She, more than anyone, understands the reality of syndicated television — you can’t go to the marketplace and sell a show that’s the ‘Maybe Wendy Show,'” the rep continued. “She understands why this decision was made from a business point of view, and she has been assured by Debmar-Mercury that should her health get to a point where she can host again and should her desire be that she hosts again that she would be back on TV at that time.”
But according to Williams, her rep was not authorized to make any statements. She took to her newly created verified Instagram page to address what was said.
“Mr. Bragman: Although I appreciate your concerns and respect you immensely, I have not authorized you to make any statements on my behalf regarding my current status with Debmar-Mercury,” she wrote in her Story. “Again, thanks for your continuing concern and support.”
Williams has been absent from her show since its 13th season began. After a delayed start, Leah Remini stepped in to host the week of October 21 for the premiere. Since then, a string of celebrity guests hosts has helmed the show.
On Monday, it was announced that Sherri Shephard will get her own talk show. Sherri will air in the time slot that Williams’ show occupies and will debut later this year.
