A manager at a Wendy‘s in Huntingdon, Tennessee, allegedly poured hot oil on a customer who complained about his food.
Zayveon Johnson is accusing Wendy’s manager Demarrus E. Pritchett of pouring hot oil on him for complaining about his food while in the drive-thru. In surveillance footage, Pritchett can be seen dousing Johnson with the oil reportedly after Johnson had asked for a refund.
According to Insider, Pritchett was in the mode of issuing Johnson a refund following a “verbal altercation” between the two of them allegedly over Johnson’s meal. That’s when he went back to the restaurant’s kitchen, grabbed a metal pan of hot oil and dumped it on him. But from Pritchett’s side of the story, he claims Johnson often harasses him, and his use of the oil was merely a response to Johnson’s ongoing alleged misconduct. He mentioned that Johnson had been “harassing [him] over the course of several weeks about dogs.”
Johnson was immediately taken to and treated at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Police say Johnson has “obvious extensive blistering.”
Johnson’s mother told WBBJ7, “I really thought that he was going to go to the back and get my food right, and bring it back,” and “it shocked me when he threw the grease on me.”
Wendy’s has yet to speak out about the incident. Pritchett was charged with aggravated assault.
