This is not a drill! Wendy’s has officially returned its Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger to its rightful place on menus nationwide.
The company initially tested this fan favorite in 2013. Despite the positive feedback, it did not launch until 2020. Even with instant success, the sandwich was discontinued a year later to make room for the Big Bacon Cheddar Burger and Chicken Sandwich. Customers were not pleased with the sudden departure, and now, the chain has decided to retire the bacon-adorned burgers to bring back the bestselling Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger.
“We always make it a priority to listen to our fans about what they want to see on our menus, or in this case, what they want to see come back on menus,” says Wendy’s U.S. Chief Marketing Officer, Carl Loredo.
The never frozen beef patty can be replaced with classic, grilled or spicy chicken, as with many Wendy’s sandwiches, and features a unique warm beer cheese sauce, smoky honey mustard, pickles, applewood-smoked bacon, fried onions, and a slice of muenster cheese in between two soft pretzel buns.
Wendy’s is notorious for toying around with its menus. In some cases, customers rejoice. In others, outrage ensues. Earlier this year, they dropped the classic vanilla Frosty to introduce the strawberry-flavored frozen treat. However, since the strawberry Frosty was only a Summer item and Fall is now creeping in, the fast food chain is looking to drop the popular dessert, likely replacing it with the Caramel Apple Frosty, which is currently only available in Canada.
While it is unknown if the Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger is here to stay, judging by the way Wendy’s likes to switch up the food choices at random, fans shouldn’t waste any time getting their hands on the famed burger.
