According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Wendy’s restaurants have been linked to a recent E-coli outbreak that has sickened 37 people and hospitalized ten people.
The food item sickening people in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania is unknown, though it has been linked to sandwiches–all containing lettuce.
In response, Wendy’s is removing all romaine lettuce in the region since another case has been reported in Indiana. The CDC wants to clarify that they are not telling people to avoid romaine lettuce from the fast food franchise since nothing has yet been confirmed.
The CDC is still investigating the ongoing situation and cannot confirm nor deny if the romaine lettuce was used at other locations.
There is no update on those hospitalized or sickened. However, no deaths have been reported.
Nineteen infections have been reported in Ohio alone, 15 in Michigan, two in Pennsylvania, and another in Indiana.
If you have E-coli symptoms, you’re advised to call a healthcare provider immediately. E-coli symptoms include diarrhea, excessive vomiting, and dehydration.
